"Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" is a Japanese manga series by Gotoge Koyoharu. It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from issue 11 of 2016 to issue 24 of 2020. The English title is "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba", and it is commonly abbreviated as "Kimetsu".
Set in Japan during the Taisho era, the story follows Kamado Tanjiro, who fights demons in order to turn his younger sister Kamado Nezuko—who has been transformed into a demon—back into a human. It is a Japanese-style sword-fighting fantasy.
The origins of the work trace back to the one-shot "Kagarigari", created by 2013. Set between the Meiji and Taisho periods, it depicts battles between vampires, demons, and "demon hunters," with some characters and techniques later carried over into "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba".
In 2015, a draft series titled "Kisatsu no Nagare" was developed, incorporating elements such as "Breathing techniques" and the "Demon Slayer Corps." This work became the direct predecessor of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba".
